TechnoServe seeks an experienced Chief of Party to lead this anticipated 5-year activity, with headquarters in Harare. The Chief of Party (COP) will lead the overall implementation and management of the anticipated program, including providing oversight of activities, leading the development of annual work plans, managing the budget, overseeing monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), and serving as the primary liaison with USAID on strategic, technical, and contractual matters. The chief of party will continuously develop operational efficiencies and drive innovations in delivery, ensuring that the program meets established objectives and targets.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks innovative solutions to address the Global Food Security Strategy goal and USAID’s Policy on Resilience, through the issuance of an upcoming Feed the Future Zimbabwe Food Security and Resilience Activity. This new activity will aim to sustainably reduce global hunger, malnutrition, and poverty through inclusive and sustainable agricultural-led economic growth, strengthened resilience among households and systems, ensuring a well-nourished population to empower women and youth in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Zimbabwe. The activity will incorporate WASH, nutrition, gender, youth and resilience in agricultural programming elements to it, and will build on, and combine, two current FtF interventions in Zimbabwe; Livestock and Crops.

The new Feed the Future (FtF) Zimbabwe activity will continue to support the successful commercialization of small-scale crop and livestock farmers begun under the FtFZ-CD and the FtFZ-LD activities. The FtF program will focus on providing capacity building and technical assistance to reduce rural poverty and improve household food security, livelihoods, incomes, and nutritional status for small-scale, commercially viable, crop and livestock households.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing strategic guidance, leadership, management, and general technical oversight of the program
  • Serving as the primary liaison with USAID and the Government of Zimbabwe, and all counterparts, implementing partners, and stakeholders involved with the program
  • Recruiting, leading, managing, and supervising implementation teams comprising long- and short-term team members and consortium partners
  • Ensuring that program outcomes and deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with USAID and TechnoServe reporting requirements
  • Identifying issues and risks related to implementation in a timely manner, suggesting appropriate program adjustments
  • Serving as spokesperson for the program and presenting its work regionally/globally

We’re looking for someone with integrity and passion about our mission and possesses the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Market Systems or other related discipline, with a minimum of seven years' experience; or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten years' experience.
  • Experience with donor government relations, specifically with the Government of Zimbabwe preferred.
  • Prior Chief of Party experience on a US-government funded project, preferably in East or Southern Africa.
  • At least 7 years of experience in relevant agriculture, agribusiness, market systems, Feed the Future, or nutrition development programs, with a minimum of three years managing large (over $10M) programs.
  • Prior experience as a chief of party or team leader on a large donor-funded program, preference for USAID or other US-government funded project, preferably in Zimbabwe or the Southern Africa Region.
  • Experience with livestock and horticulture value chain development, increasing nutrition uptake at house hold levels, and implementing Feed the Future programs in Southern Africa strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to effectively motivate and manage teams in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks and activities.
  • Ability to develop well written, cohesive analyses and reports.
  • Fluency in English required.
