DEPARTMENT : PROVINCIAL DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR’S DIRECTORATE
MINISTRY : LOCALGOVERNMENTAND PUBLIC WORKS
STATION : HARARE PROVINCE, BULAWAYO PROVINCE,
MASHONALANDEASTPROVINCE, MASHONALANDWESTPROVINCE, MASHONALAND CENTRAL PROVINCE, MANICALAND PROVINCE, MATABELELAND NORTH PROVINCE, MATABELELAND SOUTH PROVINCE, MASVINGO PROVINCEAND MIDLANDSPROVINCE

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Formulate long term sustainable environmental policies on land use planning.
2. Mainstream environmental priorities into local development plans, in particular through urban Infrastructure Development Strategies that work to reconcile urban economic growth with better resource efficiency.
3. Analyse the environmental impacts of proposed construction projects (housing, industrial and transportation projects) and make sure that they meet all environmental regulations and requirements.
4. Review site plans and carryout site inspections so as to investigate potential environmental effects and identify needed changes for future development.
5. Supervise research on International best practices in order to keep abreast with changes in zoning and building codes, environmental regulations and other legal issues.
6. Analyse ways of mitigating the environmental impact of architecture, logistics, systems and other aspects of a development project so as to ensure sustainability of an urban plan.
7. Ensure that sustainably-built environments are created by striking a balance between societal needs ,technological adaptation or the general application of appropriate technology; while also aiming to reduce social, economic and environmental risks and hazards in future.
8. Encourage Local Authorities to formulate Local conservation strategies.
9. Ensure a successful urban land use management which leads to both the sustainability of environment and economic development.
10. Incorporate sustainability principles in infrastructure Development operations.
11. Monitor and regulate local authorities ‘compliance with guidelines set forth by the Environmental Management Agency.(EMA)

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCEANDATTRIBUTES: • A degree in Geography and Environmental Studies, Ecology, Environmental Science or any related field • A postgraduate qualification in Environmental Studies is an added advantage • At least 2 years experience as Principal Environment Officer or equivalent grade • Thorough knowledge of Environmental Management Laws • Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) mapping software and excellent writing skills are also essential • Ability to communicate at all levels • A good team leader and motivator • Ability to work under pressure • A strategic thinker Candidates, [especially women], with relevant long-term experience at senior levels in the private sector or in the non-state enterprises domain, within and outside Zimbabwe, are encouraged to apply.
