Description

A vacancy has arisen within a SIDA funded project “Climate Adaption for Rural Livelihoods’’ (CARL) for an Ecologist/ Natural resources management Officer based in Gutu. The goal of the project is to improve the well-being of Zimbabwe’s rural population and reduce poverty and food insecurity in the face of climate change. The underlying project development objective is to improve the climate resilience of agricultural production and rural livelihoods for 6,000 households in the targeted districts of Buhera, Gutu and Bulilima using the Climate Resilient Village (CRVs) approach among other tools and approaches.
Main Responsibilities
Lead in all aspects of the project Natural Resources Assessment, Planning and Management in targeted Climate Resilient Villages in the district; Advises the Project Management Unit and District Project Team Leaders on priority natural resources for building climate resilience in each of the targeted Climate Resilient Villages (CRVs); Promote innovative approaches to Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM); Provide support to Project Assistant Field Officers in community involvement to conceptualize, develop, manage, monitor and evaluate Natural Resources Management activities for resilience building; Supervise and effectively manage the performance of CARL project Assistant Field Officer in the assigned area in relation to implementation of Natural Resources Management activities across the three districts; Design procedures and conduct resource inventory, evaluation, audits and assessments for wildlife, forest and woodland-based resources for efficient project implementation; Developing implementation strategies, training materials and manuals; Link and collaborate with partners at district level to strengthen the capacity of grass root ward level staff involved in facilitating community empowerment and capacity building in the area of local Natural Resources Management for Resilience building; Provide technical support in collaboration with relevant partners to improve management of natural resources in an integrated manner; Plan and coordinate exchange visits for learning and sharing of best practices across the three districts; Ensure quality, coherence and effective documentation for project visibility through structured assessments, case studies and research; Contribute to ensuring programme quality and measurability of outputs, outcomes and impact; Support work on accountability to beneficiaries around the design and implementation of feedback/ complaints mechanisms ensuring recommendations are taken on board by the project management team; Represents organization at district and provincial stakeholders NRM meetings and forums; Any other duties in line with the job as prescribed by supervisor.
Basics
University Degree in Natural Resources Management or an equivalent qualification; Additional qualifications in, Climate Change, project management, Agriculture/Development Studies report writing and social/community development will be an advantage; At least 3 years practical experience in working with rural communities in natural resources management, community development/climate resilience work; Ability to work in teams, communicate and coordinate with government departments, private sector and other development agencies at various levels; A minimum of 5 years community development experience; Knowledge of development issues, trends, challenges and opportunities and implications to community development; Technical knowledge in climate changes issues, gender issues, HIV/AIDS and Disaster and Risk Reduction; A valid class 4 Drivers license
