The University seeks to recruit applicants with requisite qualifications, skills and experience for the

following post in the Innovation and Business Development: –

FARM MANAGER (1 POST)
The Farm Manager will be responsible for the daily planning, organisation, supervision and administration
of activities on the University farm such as crop production, horticultural activities as well as livestock
management and production. The ideal candidate will be required to maximise production at the farm and
ensure that the farm is profitable and meets projected financial targets. The successful candidate must be a
person of integrity; passionate, proactive, honest and production focused.
Qualifications and Experience
 5 O level passes including English and Mathematics.
 A Diploma in Agriculture plus at least 3 years’ relevant experience; or a Degree in Agriculture plus
at least 2 years’ relevant experience.
 A clean Class 4 Driver’s License is a requirement.
 Experience at supervisory level and knowledge of mechanization operations will be an added
advantage.
 Experience in field, horticulture crops (including export crops) and animal fodders and pastures;
drip irrigation integrated with fertilization; commercial composting; commercial farming (profit
mind-set and costs conscious) and planning and implementation of row cropping, plantation
farming and horticultural production, under irrigation, and rain fed.
Duties and Responsibilities
 Plans and supervises staff and farm activities, ensuring compliance with government regulations
and health and safety standards;
 Budgets and maintains accurate financial records;
 Plans and implements production against set budget parameters;
 Handles paperwork and keeps accurate farm administrative records, including production records
and knowledge of pests and diseases;
 Monitors animal health and welfare in liaison with the veterinary department;
 Organises sales and purchases of livestock, farm equipment, crops and agricultural products;
 Undertakes practical activities such as driving tractors, operating machinery, feeding livestock or
spraying fields;
 Organizes maintenance and repair of farm property, equipment and machinery;
 Advertises and markets farm products.

 Ability to lead, source, coordinate and motivate a multi-disciplinary workforce.
 Ability to plan and implement farming projects.
 Proven leadership skills and ability to communicate and work with people.
 Decisive and problem solving skills.
 Knowledge of key farm equipment practices.
