Description

Reports to the Business Development Director
- Responsible for assisting in the setting up and managing road transport safety system for the company.
- Oversees the safety of employees including bulk truck operators.

Duties And Responsibilities

1. To ensure that maintenance of trucks is carried as per manufacturer’s recommendations and schedule.
2. To carry out random truck inspections and ensure defects are attended to.
3. To ensure that drivers complete the daily truck inspection checklist.
4. To ensure that workshops carry out preventative maintenance checks and safe to load checks on delivery trucks.
5. To assist in preparation and checking the effectiveness of the operating and emergency procedures.
6. Carry out emergency preparedness drills for various scenarios as per emergency plan
7. To carry out route risk surveys for the routes done by drivers
8. To ensure that all trucks have working OBC and that these are analysed on a daily basis.
9. Ensure that the safety equipment and driver documents are present on board the vehicles.
10. Carry out quarterly senior management inspections of the yard and operational activities
11. Carry out accident investigation and implement corrective measures.
12. Carry out spot checks on site deliveries using the appropriate checklist.
13. Carry out driver observations using checklists and keep a record of all drivers observed
14. Test drivers’ understanding of their daily tasks – use various test questions.
15. To monitor changes in legislation and ensure that all operations are carried out within the confines of the law of Zimbabwe.
16. To implement and monitor the road transport safety management system in line with customers’ requirements.
17. Arrange toolbox talks with drivers and other staff members as necessary.
18. Prepare safety related budget and monitor expenditure as per approved budget.
19. Attend customers’ monthly transporters safety meetings
20. Prepare and monitor safety key performance indicators and ensure safety performance board is updated.
21. Set near miss reporting/targets by departments
22. Ensure employees are trained in all safety related training and keep records thereof.
23. Run a driver of the month/year programme.
24. Update driver’s manual annually.
25. Ensure PPE policy is adhered to
26. Carry out monthly safety meetings and follow up on issues outstanding
27. Prepare the safety plan/calendar and monitor progress
28. Carry out activities prescribed in the attached letter of appointment for the Operations Manager

Qualifications And Experience

BSc Degree (Business/Engineering/Health and Environment) or relevant business related degree.
At least five years’ experience in transport management & safety, health and environment domain
