The United Nations World Food Programme is a leading organization delivering food assistance and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We also support governments of developing countries in their efforts to eliminate hunger and malnutrition by addressing the underlying causes and disparities in access to food and good nutrition to ensure that no one is left behind in line with the Agenda 2030, Sustaining Peace and Agenda for Humanity. WFP is particularly focused on Goals 2 (Zero Hunger) and 17 (Partnerships).

In April 2017, WFP Zimbabwe Office launched its 2017-2021 Country Strategic Plan (CSP). For the attainment of Zero Hunger, it specifies that, WFP has increasingly focus on strengthening capacities of those farmers and government institutions through the facilitation of South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSC). In addition, in line with SDG 17 on Partnerships, WFP Zimbabwe engages in a range of new partnerships including private sectors and civil organisation for capacity strengthening as well as for resource mobilization to support the implementation of the CSP.

JOB PURPOSE

To provide support for the project management for the activities to support smallholder farmers and the engagement in Zimbabwe with countries related to those activities ï¼ÂŒfor the advancement of the South-South cooperation and for the exploration of partnerships with private sector and NGO partners for the office.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

This position is located in the WFP Zimbabwe Country Office and allowed to work remotely from the place of the residence considering the situation of COVID-19 in Zimbabwe. Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Country Director/Head of Programme and direct Supervison of the Programme Policy Officer for South-South Cooperation and Partnership, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide technical support and assist in the implementation of Zimbabwe of the smallholder agricultural marketing activities in alignment with wider programme policies and guidelines in particular the integrated resilience building activities.
  • Compile and analyse data and prepare reports for smallholder agricultural marketing activities in order to support operational decision-making.
  • Liaise with counterparts from related countries involved in agricultural marketing, post-harvest management to build partnerships between those actors and WFP Zimbabwe for the enhancing the of Zimbabwes smallholder agricultural marketing activities.
  • Communicate with local Zimbabwean partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions as relevant to capacity strengthening initiatives and results.
  • Carry out research on issues related to Zimbabwen policies on agricultural marketing and ideal post-harvest management techniques for field crops and grains.
  • Follow standard WFP procedures and guidance relating to due diligence and engagement with partners in smallholder agricultural activities.
  • Perform other duties as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months' in economics, urban and rural planning, social sciences, agriculture, environmental sciences, agricultural insurance,project management and disaster risk management or related field
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point);
  • Fluent in English LanguageStudents studying in graduate course or higher in International Studies, Agricultural Economics, Policy Studies, Human welfare Studies, Economics or other field relevant to smallholders farmers support and partnership building for international development assistance. A mix of studies at universities in different countries is considered an advantage.

FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES

  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to listen and work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor his/her own work plan with very good outcomes.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate, or graduate degree programme.
  • Pursuing at least a first-level university degree in management, international relations, business administration, communications, business administration, social sciences or related field.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office is required.
  • Knowledge in the field of Programmes is a plus
  • Experience in or exposure to international or humanitarian settings either as volunteer or as part of work or study would be an advantage.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will recognize candidates' educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
