Description

Responsible to: Fieldwork Manager, Manicaland Centre
The post-holder will be based in Mutasa district and also will be expected to spend time in the project’s other field sites in Manicaland and Harare. The contract will initially be for 5 months from August 2021 to December 2021 with a possibility of extension.
Position summary
To ensure that project vehicles are maintained and serviced to a satisfactory standard on regular basis; Performing preventative maintenance on vehicles and stationary engines; Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles; Perform basic auto care and maintenance tasks; Able to service and repair stationary engines like a big generator with Cummins engine, small generator kipor type, brush cutter, and borehole water pump; To ensure that road taxes and insurance are kept up to date for all vehicles; To manage the project’s fuel supply and distribution, maintain appropriate records, and prepare regular reports on fuel consumption and stocks; To purchase replacement vehicles when requested to do so by the Programme Director and to advise on and to assist with the disposal of surplus vehicles; To coordinate the allocation and use of all project vehicles under the direction of the Fieldwork Manager; To test vehicles to gauge performance and to test new potential drivers for the project, arrange for defensive driving courses and train drivers on basic vehicle maintenance; To submit regular monthly reports on vehicle condition and fuel consumption for review by the Fieldwork Manager and follow-up on issues arising; Assist with and any other duties assigned by the Fieldwork Manager; Attending to Management meetings and report status of project vehicles, mileage and fuel usage; To maintain and recommend improvements to the project’s Transport policies and Procedures Guide for consideration by the Fieldwork Manager and Programme Director.
Qualification requirements
Apprentice trained class, 1 journeyman; National certificate or diploma in Motor vehicle Mechanics (Petrol and Diesel); At least 5 years post qualification experience and an in-depth appreciation of Toyota Landcruiser 4 * 4 and Isuzu models; A clean class 4 driver’s licence; Defence drivers licence is an added advantage; Result-oriented and hands-on person; Excellent interpersonal skills and computer literate.
